The ledge at Pedra do Telégrafo looks terrifying in photographs and is entirely safe in person — the drop behind it is an illusion of angle. Going at first light means you climb in cool air and reach the top before the queue, so everyone gets their picture without rushing. On the way back you stop at Grumari or Barra de Guaratiba for a swim and a plate of fried fish.
