Borghese Gallery & Villa Borghese Gardens

The Borghese Gallery limits how many people can be inside at once, which is why it feels nothing like the Vatican. Your timed slot gives you two hours with a guide among the great Baroque marbles and canvases, arranged room by room exactly as a cardinal intended them to be shown off. Afterwards you walk out into the gardens — the lake, the temple folly, the terrace above Piazza del Popolo — with time to stay on your own.
