Tijuca Forest Waterfall Hike

Tijuca was replanted by hand in the nineteenth century after the hillsides were cleared for coffee, and today it is a functioning Atlantic rainforest inside a city of six million. With a naturalist guide you follow shaded trails to two waterfalls, stop to swim, and climb to a viewpoint where the forest, the beaches and the skyline all appear at once. Expect monkeys, toucans and a lot of green.

   Pickup from South Zone hotels and drive into the park.

   First trail section to the Cascatinha waterfall.

   Continue to a natural pool for a swim.

   Drive to the Chinese View and Emperor's Table viewpoints, then return.

• Moderate difficulty: about 6 km with some uphill sections.
